RVS-3

The loop is designed for material and radioactivity transport investigation under PWR/VVER conditions. The RVS-3 loop facility enables the performance of irradiation experiments in a wide range of operational parameters limited by maximum parameters as listed below.

Maximum Parameters

The loop is a closed stainless steel system with typical technological auxiliary systems. The experimental equipment of the loop consists of:Description

Pressure 16.5 MPa
Temperature 345 °C
Cooling water flow rate 10 000 kg/h
Neutron flux  (E > 1 MeV) ~ × 1018
Neutron flux  (E  thermal) ~ × 1018
Power demand 120 kW

Active (in-pile) channel situated in the reactor core for irradiation of materials samples

  • Out-of-pile test section providing the same thermal-hydraulic parameters as in-pile channel
  • Electrically heated rods for corrosion tests of materials
  • Possible loading facility for investigation of corrosion fatigue at low-cycle load and SSRT test
  • Filtration system equipped with mechanical and ion exchange filters
  • Make-up water system for water environment preparation and dosing into the loop system
  • Sampling system for water sampling from different points of the loop
  • High-temperature sensors for water chemistry monitoring

Experimental possibilities

  • Investigation of degradation and corrosion behaviour of structural materials’ mechanical properties under irradiation and PWR/VVER water chemistry and thermal-hydraulic conditions
  • Investigation of behaviour (corrosion, hydriding) of fuel cladding materials under influence of irradiation, thermal flux and water chemistry conditions
  • Investigation of radioactivity transport and behaviour under PWR/VVER conditions
  • Testing of high-temperature, high-pressure sensors for water chemistry monitoring
  • Research of corrosion products transport, influence of water environment
  • High-temperature monitoring of water regimes testing
